Residents of West Mansfield, get ready for a spring in your step. The local park scene is about to get an upgrade, and it's not just the kids who are in for a treat. The Mansfield Texas Parks & Recreation announced on social media that Moody Park, which some may still remember as McClendon Park East, is nearing the completion of its makeover. According to their Facebook post, the park will boast new play structures, suitable for youngsters aged 2-11 years, complete with swings to kick the fun up a notch. Added seating and shady spots, courtesy of the adjacent woods, are likely to make this spot a favorite for family outings.

While the exact date the fences come down is still a bit of a mystery, the anticipation isn't keeping anyone from looking forward to the new space. "Work is almost complete at Moody Park, formerly known as McClendon Park East, to upgrade the 34-year-old equipment with a larger structure for ages 2-11Y, including swings!!" the Mansfield Texas Parks & Recreation department shared. The park upgrade isn’t just a cosmetic affair; it’s a nod to local history and civil rights progress. A rededication ceremony is on the books for later this year to honor local civil rights figure Thomas Mayfield (T.M.) Moody, as well as the park's original namesake, McClendon Moody.

Efforts to refurbish the park come from a City Council decision back in 2025, aimed at preserving Mansfield's rich history through park and facility name dedications. "Later this year, we'll have a rededication ceremony to honor both the new playground and, most importantly, the name rededication to honor both McClendon Moody (the original namesake, who is still recognized at the original McClendon Park, 799 W. Broad St.) and his uncle, Thomas Mayfield (T.M.) Moody," revealed the Mansfield Texas Parks & Recreation department's announcement. The plans evidently include a sign detailing Mr. Moody's contributions to the Mansfield community, and it’s set to be unveiled during the ceremony scheduled for the spring season.
