A Mexican national with an extensive criminal history has once again been charged with illegal entry into the United States. Ulian Ohye-Michiko, 48, who had been deported from the U.S. 11 times since 2008, faced a federal judge on Monday, facing a one-count charge of deported alien found in the U.S., with a preliminary court hearing scheduled for February 9, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Nevada.
During his latest recapture, Ohye-Michiko was arrested by Las Vegas Metro Police last December for multiple offenses including child abuse or neglect, domestic battery, and DUI, leading to his handover to ICE custody on January 13 this year after a domestic battery incident, DUI, driving without a license, and other charges and he now potentially stares down a maximum 10-year sentence if convicted on this latest federal charge. The criminal complaint against him indicates a record that includes four prior felony convictions, specifically aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer and repeated illegal reentries after deportation.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Sigal Chattah, together with ICE Acting Field Office Director Brian Henke, has announced the charges, underscoring the man's repeat offenses and noting the collaboration between local and federal agencies in this case. Following the due process, the consequence for Ohye-Michiko could include not only imprisonment but also supervised release, a steep fine, and yet another deportation to Mexico,as noted by the same press release.
The case against Ohye-Michiko is the result of investigative efforts by ICE's Salt Lake City, Las Vegas Sub-Office, and is being brought forward by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada, those facing suspected immigration violations or witness suspicious activity are encouraged to contact authorities by calling 866-DHS-2-ICE, which is ICE’s tip line.
