Yesterday, approximately 1,000 demonstrators, including students from Golda Meir School, protested in downtown Milwaukee against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) practices. The protests followed national student-led actions after the death of Alex Pretti, a VA nurse who died following an altercation involving ICE agents in Minneapolis.

Kathy Randall, speaking to CBS 58, said she was concerned about human rights and joined the protest to support both immigrants’ and her own rights. Demonstrators marched through city streets, carrying signs and chanting, as part of broader actions planned nationally, including boycotts around May 1.

Students at Golda Meir School staged a walkout and marched to Milwaukee’s ICE headquarters despite cold temperatures. High school senior Adrianna Reams, founder of her school’s social justice club, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the protests were in response to ICE activities affecting immigrants.

Bree Newell, a senior at Golda Meir School, told TMJ4 that youth participation in social and political issues is important and emphasized that students’ voices contribute to public debate on immigration policy.

The protests in Milwaukee included both students and adults and were intended to raise awareness about ICE enforcement practices and their impact on local communities.
