Observations by undercover officers allowed them to wager and win within these businesses, blurring the lines of legality at establishments such as Mousa Market and Kwik-E-Mart. After the covert accounts were established and wagers placed, officers acted on this evidence and executed search warrants. A social media update by the police department detailed the operation's impact, resulting in the detention of four individuals linked to the gambling setup, and another for drug possession. Approximately $27,000 in cash tied to the unlawful gambling was confiscated, along with outlawed flavored tobacco items that drew fines totaling $40,000.
Two of the businesses involved, namely J's Smoke Shop and A&Z Smoke Shop—also had their ancillary infringement of housing expired food product displays, perhaps to masquerade as mere convenience stores. This act of deceit was aimed at veiling their core operation of fostering illegal betting activities, the police suggest.
