The Modesto Police Department will hold a DUI checkpoint on Friday from 8:00 pm to 3:00 am to reduce impaired driving incidents in areas identified as crash hotspots. "Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk," said Sergeant Darien Wilson, emphasizing the importance of the campaign for road safety, as reported by the Modesto Police Department.

The checkpoint will target not only alcohol impairment but also the effects of prescription medications and marijuana on driving. The exact location of the checkpoint has not been disclosed as part of the department’s ongoing traffic safety efforts, as stated by the Modesto Police Department.

According to the Modesto Police Department on their Facebook page, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal, even though its use is legal in California. A DUI can cost around $13,500 in fines and penalties, and first-time offenders may have their license suspended. A police checkpoint, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has been set up in a location chosen using safety data.
