In a recent address, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo called for a detailed examination of fatal shootings involving federal agents in Minnesota. The two separate incidents, one on January 7 and the other on January 24, resulted in the deaths of Renée Good and Alex Pretti, respectively. Lombardo released a statement extending his thoughts on the matter, urging for calm and a withholding of judgment until further facts are presented. News 3 LV reported the governor’s words, stating, "Like many Nevadans, Donna and I are distressed by the events of the past few weeks in Minnesota, and we hope to do our small part to reduce the tension that is seemingly gripping our country by simply listening more to people who hold different viewpoints."
As a former law enforcement officer, Governor Lombardo, taking a stance of non-prejudice, knows not to draw conclusions without having full command of the factual landscape. President Donald Trump's call for a comprehensive and impartial review into these cases resonates with Lombardo, who believes accountability and fair prosecution is essential. According to News 3 LV, Lombardo expressed, "I was pleased to see President [Donald] Trump's call for a thorough and unbiased review of all the evidence in these cases and believe that if anyone is found to have violated the law regardless of the circumstances surrounding their involvement, they are held to account and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
Amidst the unfolding controversy and the calls for a review of tactics used by ICE, local politicians have also weighed in. Nevada Congresswoman Susie Lee, other Democrats, and the state's sole Republican Congressman Mark Amodei have voiced concerns. These officials have sought changes in the approach of ICE following the deadly incidents, highlighting the growing tension and demand for reform at the federal level regarding law enforcement practices.
Supporting the safety of his constituents remains Lombardo's priority, along with endorsing President Trump's border security measures against violent or repeat offenders. The governor stated, “I implore federal law enforcement agencies to work together with government partners consistently and transparently to ensure the safety of our communities and keep every American citizen free from harm,” as noted by FOX5 Vegas.
