
Sacramento’s City Council welcomed Maraskeshia Smith as the new City Manager, presiding over her first official meeting on Tuesday. “I am excited to welcome Maraskeshia Smith to our City leadership team,” Mayor Kevin McCarty said, adding, “We are fortunate to have such an accomplished and dedicated City Manager. I look forward to working alongside her,” according to the City of Sacramento.
Smith brings over 20 years of public service experience, having held leadership roles in Cincinnati, Oakland, Stockton, and Santa Rosa. In her new role, she will oversee city operations, managing thousands of personnel and a budget exceeding a billion dollars, as reported by the City of Sacramento.
Smith’s priorities include fiscal stability, public safety, addressing homelessness, and promoting economic growth. She holds an Master of Business Administration from Eastern Kentucky University, a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Kentucky, and earned the Credentialed Manager designation from the International City County Management Association in 2024. She manages nearly 6,000 employees and a $1.6 billion operational budget. On her appointment, she said, "I am honored to begin this work alongside the Mayor, City Council and our dedicated City employees," and added, "Together, we will focus on keeping our neighborhoods safe, strengthening quality of life and delivering services in a way that is transparent," as mentioned by the City of Sacramento.
