Violence marred the early hours of the new year in Michigan with incidents occurring at two separate bars, leaving one man dead and three critically injured.
According to ClickOnDetroit, a shooting and stabbing at Chita’s Nefertiti Bar, located on Grand River in Detroit’s west side, resulted in a man being pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds, and another man suffering from stab wounds is now in critical condition, after the police responded to the scene just after 1 a.m. yesterday.
Meanwhile, CBS Detroit reported that a 29-year-old man from Livonia, identified as Brian Jaron Lindsay, is facing charges including two counts of assault with intent to murder among others in the wake of a New Year's Day shooting outside of a bar in Garden City, which left two men critically injured following an altercation, the men were taken to the hospital and were in critical condition on Thursday evening according to police reports.
Details on the exact motivations behind these violent acts remain sparse, but what surfaces is a stark reminder of the truth that welcomes the new year, a grim and disheartening sequence of events where celebrations of time's passage are eclipsed by the specter of mortality and violence in places where people sought refuge in camaraderie amongst spirits.
Police have confirmed that a suspect is in custody for the incident at Chita’s Nefertiti Bar, as FOX 2 Detroit reported, and the department's homicide unit is conducting an ongoing investigation, as the community awaits answers and contends with the unsettling start to the year that was meant to harbor new beginnings instead, it's overshadowed by the somber processions that accompany loss and recovery from needless violence.
