Three months after 19-year-old Kimora McGinnies was shot and killed, her North Las Vegas family says it is still waiting in the dark. McGinnies, a young mother relatives call "the life of the party," was killed in late October and leaves behind a 1-year-old son. As detectives continue their work with no public updates, relatives say their grief is now joined by rising frustration.
Family Demands Answers
Relatives gathered this week to plead for help and to push the case back into the public eye. Her aunt, Tequella Koonce, directly addressed the killer, asking, "the person who did this, how could you sleep at night?" Her mother, Darnisha Koonce, described Kimora as "loving, fun," and the family vowed they will "keep fighting for justice."
They urged anyone who attended the Halloween-night party where McGinnies was killed to contact authorities, telling reporters they need witnesses and any evidence people might have, according to 8 News Now.
Police Investigating, No Public Updates
North Las Vegas police say detectives are still working the homicide but have not announced any arrests. The department again urged anyone with information to call in tips.
Officers were dispatched the night of Oct. 24 to the 4500 block of Anspach Street after reports of a shooting. First responders found a young woman unresponsive, according to KTNV. The North Las Vegas Police Department lists its main line as 702-633-9111, and anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555, per the North Las Vegas Police Department.
Local Context
The Clark County coroner later identified the victim as 19-year-old Kimora McGinnies and ruled her death a homicide, officials said. Her killing comes as Clark County and local media track a mixed trend in violence across the valley. While countywide homicides dipped in 2024, North Las Vegas still recorded 29 homicides that year, a number that keeps community concerns about gun violence very much alive, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
How To Help
The family has launched a fundraiser to help care for McGinnies' son and cover funeral expenses. Her aunt organized the GoFundMe campaign and is asking supporters to step in where they can.
Relatives also repeated their plea for anyone who was at the party or who might have phone or video footage to reach out to law enforcement. "If you were at the party and know something or recorded something, call anonymous to the police," the aunt said, as reported by 8 News Now. The fundraiser can be found on GoFundMe.
What Officials Say
Detectives say the investigation remains open and active, and no arrests have been announced. Authorities again asked anyone with tips to call 702-633-9111 or to submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers.
Local outlets first reported the October homicide and continue to follow the family's public appeals as investigators pursue leads, as covered by FOX5 Las Vegas.
