A 62-year-old armed patient was fatally shot by NYPD officers at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital on Thursday after barricading himself inside and threatening others. Assistant Chief Charles Minch said, "When they got to the room, they saw blood all over the walls, floor and splattered across the exterior of the door," as reported by Gothamist.
The man had wounded himself and tried to harm a patient in their 70s and a hospital security staff member, ignoring officers’ commands to drop the weapon. Minch added, "The subject came into the doorframe and displayed the bloody weapon," after which officers discharged their firearms following unsuccessful Taser attempts and verbal warnings.
“The investigation is ongoing,” said NYPD media representatives about a recent shooting, as per CBS News New York. A man who had been admitted to the hospital the day before died after a confrontation with police. It is unclear how he got the weapon or how many shots were fired. All officers were wearing body cameras, and the footage will be reviewed. The identity of the deceased has not been released.
