In a display of dedication and quick action, Joe Estes, an Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) employee, became an unsung hero during a winter storm that could've put lives at risk. The Ohio Department of Transportation praised Estes for his heroic actions over the past weekend when an urgent situation unfolded amid a major winter storm.
On a particularly stormy Sunday around noon, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital found itself in a bind, requiring an emergency transport during unsafe weather conditions. According to a social media post by ODOT, Joe Estes answered the call without a second thought, steering his plow through the treacherous roads to meet the emergency response team at I-71 and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.
Yet, when approached about his actions, Estes remained modest, describing himself "just a truck driver." This sentiment, however, stands in stark contrast to the Ohio Department of Transportation’s heralding of him as a hero. The ODOT's recognition of Estes' efforts adds to the appreciation for individuals who go beyond their job description, especially when, it means the difference between life and death for those in peril. Despite his humility, the impactful nature of Estes' service is undeniable and the safety of baby Bryson serves as a testament to that.
