Ohioans, brace yourselves for a mixed bag of weather conditions coming through the area, as reported by the National Weather Service Wilmington Ohio. Today, residents are waking up to a Dense Fog Advisory in central Ohio, with visibility down to a quarter-mile in some places. The National Weather Service stated, "Clear skies and light winds have created conditions to favor fog development." But don't get too comfortable with the calm, as the flares of change are right around the corner.
It seems like the weather just can't sit still. We're looking at "rain Thursday night into Friday, and then again on Saturday," as per the National Weather Service. To quickly add some warmth to the mix, a cold front will swipe through the region, dropping the thermostat for Sunday and beyond. Meanwhile, those hoping to enjoy the warmer-than-normal climes will have to weather gusty winds and scattered rainfall. Expect to unpredictably switch between rain boots and sunglasses in the span of hours.
The weather isn't planning to take much of a breather at night either. With an area of surface low pressure cutting northeast and poised to stir up the wind as it fades away, things are looking to get breezy. The NWS anticipates wind gusts to reach 25-35 mph late Thursday into early Friday morning, and though there's no advisory warning just yet, those numbers might climb higher. So, tie down your patio furniture, it could get windy with potential gusts hitting "40 to 45 mph" behind the cold front.
Saturday lingers with its rain showers as moisture keeps flowing into the Ohio Valley, thanks to the stubborn southwesterly flow aloft. But don't get too set on rain being the only act because Sunday may bring a dusting of snow our way, though the forecasts suggest anything accumulating is a long shot. Finally, as we peek into next week, the weather seems to settle down, only to pick up again midweek with another mix of rain and snow on the horizon.
Travelers, take note. Fog is the chief concern for aviation, with "MVFR visibilities at KILN/KDAY/KCMH, and occasional IFR to LIFR conditions at KLUK/KLCK," impacting flights, according to the NWS. Conditions should improve around mid-morning, but for those flying out early, expect delays.
