In an effort to instill greater trust in the country's electoral process, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose publicly endorsed the newly introduced Make Elections Great Again (MEGA) Act. In his statement, LaRose underlined the importance of nationwide election integrity, leveraging Ohio's current system as a model. The initiative, aimed to set a unified standard across the states, was met with recognition from Congress.
"Americans deserve confidence that their elections are secure and reflect the will of the people," LaRose said in a move to decisively push the conversation on electoral reform. According to an official press release from the Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose's office, LaRose expressed his gratitude towards Congressman Steil and congressional leaders for promptly introducing the MEGA Act. Despite the prevailing political climate, Secretary LaRose urged members of Congress to "set aside partisan blinders and pass these important and commonsense reforms."
The MEGA Act draws heavily from Ohio's existing election practices, which have earned the state recognition as a benchmark for election integrity. The proposed legislation aims to replicate Ohio's success on a national scale, setting minimum standards as a means to bolster confidence in election outcomes. LaRose's statement emphasized the capability of these measures to serve as the foundation for a national approach to secure and fair elections.
This move comes at a time when election integrity has become a central issue in national politics, with conversations often split along partisan lines. LaRose, acknowledging the contentious nature of electoral reforms, continues to advocate for a bipartisan approach to ensure the legislation effectively serves all constituents. Understanding the magnitude of the challenge, he nevertheless emphasized Ohio's track record of election integrity and remains hopeful that it can serve to "make Ohio’s elections the gold standard" across the United States.
