A quiet stretch of Baldwin Park woke up early to sirens on Tuesday when a pre-dawn fire tore through a neighborhood strip mall along Ramona Boulevard near Durbin Street, heavily damaging several businesses but sparing any loss of life.
Flames and thick smoke were pouring from the building when Los Angeles County firefighters arrived just before 1 a.m. Crews were met with fire already pushing through parts of the roof, prompting commanders to quickly bump the incident up to a second alarm as more engines rolled in.
According to ABC7 Los Angeles, firefighters were able to knock the blaze down in about an hour. A flower shop and a Mexican restaurant took the hardest hit, while other neighboring businesses also suffered damage. No injuries were reported, and officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
This block's fire history
This particular stretch of Ramona Boulevard has seen serious fire activity before. In June 2025, a second-alarm blaze at a nearby construction site spread to adjoining homes and displaced residents, a case detailed by Baldwin Park News. That incident highlighted ongoing fire risks on the block that neighbors have not forgotten.
Investigation and public records
Investigators from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, working with local authorities, are now focused on pinpointing how and where the strip mall blaze started. Officials say they will review the scene and related evidence before releasing any findings.
The department’s website explains how incident reports and related records can be requested by members of the public and the press, and anyone with information about Tuesday’s fire is encouraged to contact Baldwin Park police or fire investigators.
Cleanup and damage assessments are expected to continue through the day as business owners survey what is left and weigh their next moves. City officials say more details will be released as the investigation moves forward.
