Local businesses have a shot to shape the city's future skyline and green spaces this year with a series of major development projects on the agenda. The City is rolling out major projects, including a new City Hall and upgraded parks, with opportunities in construction, utilities, design, and professional services. This spring, the City's Business Engagement and Opportunities Program will launch, inviting businesses to learn how to get involved.

The program kicks off with a meet-and-greet featuring Balfour Beatty, the general contractor spearheading projects including the North Carolina Museum of History and UNC-Wilmington's Housing Village. Interested parties should pencil in Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 5800 Faringdon Place, an event detailed by the City of Raleigh's announcement. It's a prime chance to network and to potentially get involved with the Civil War History Museum of Fayetteville, as well as other city projects.

The following day, Jan. 29, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be an online (Microsoft Teams) HUB Certification Info Session. This session aims to guide businesses through getting certified as a Historically Underutilized Business with the North Carolina Department of Administration. Additionally, it'll cover how to register as a City of Raleigh vendor, which could open doors to future contracts with the City.

Don't miss the ensuing seminar "Doing Business with the City of Raleigh" on Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., also online via Microsoft Teams. Here, local business owners can demystify the City's contracting processes, uncover procurement demands, and pinpoint new opportunities. There's a Q&A session baked into this one, where businesses can quiz Raleigh staff from the Business Engagement and Opportunities Program, Small Business Development, and Procurement teams, an effort to make sure interested parties are well-informed, as per the city's announcement.

Businesses can get a head start on upcoming projects at the Project Forecasting Workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Raleigh Pathways Center, 900 S. Wilmington Street. The session will cover projects including the Wake Bus Rapid Transit at New Bern Avenue, new fire stations, and sidewalk expansions. A Spanish-language workshop is also planned.
