The Raleigh Fire Department has announced plans to honor its fallen members with memorial ceremonies on the anniversaries of their deaths. According to the City of Raleigh, the upcoming tributes will begin with a ceremony for Lt. Herman S. Jones, who died in the line of duty on January 22, 2008.
The initiative continues the department’s practice of recognizing the service and sacrifice of its members. Raleigh Fire Department memorials will include a wreath-laying, a bell ceremony to mark a moment of silence, and remarks honoring the fallen.
Family members, retirees, and current department personnel are invited to take part in the ceremonies. The observances will include acts of remembrance and acknowledgment of the contributions these firefighters made to their community and colleagues.
The first ceremony, honoring Lt. Jones’s service, is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday, at the Keeter Training Center. Additional information about the service and other tributes can be found in the Raleigh Fire Department’s news section.
