Ricardo Mujica-Calderon, a 36-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced to 32 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to drug trafficking, possession of firearms, and illegal re-entry into the United States. Authorities found him selling methamphetamine from his vehicle in January 2022 and later discovered 13 kilograms of meth, cocaine, firearms, and cash during a search of his home, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
"This successful prosecution of a felon with multiple convictions for illegal re-entry, assault of a family member, and a DWI with a child under 15 years of age is a great example of the level of collaboration that can be achieved between federal, state, and local law enforcement," quoted U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons. The DEA, ICE, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Devine Police Department all participated in the investigation leading to Mujica-Calderon's arrest and sentencing, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
"Mujica-Calderon profited from peddling poison in our San Antonio neighborhoods," said DEA Special Agent Miguel Madrigal. ICE will pursue individuals who threaten public safety, especially those with criminal records and illegal status in the U.S. After his sentence, Mujica-Calderon will be transferred to ICE and deported to Mexico. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Yuen with support from multiple agencies, focusing on drug trafficking and related crimes in Texas, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
