Shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday, San Antonio firefighters rushed to the 200 block of Loma Park Drive on the city's West Side after a flurry of 911 calls reported a house fire and warned that people might still be trapped inside. Crews arrived within minutes to find flames tearing through the home and two nearby vehicles. Firefighters quickly went to work, knocking down the blaze and searching the property. Everyone inside managed to get out, and no injuries were reported, though the house was left with heavy damage.
What crews found at the scene
San Antonio Fire Department crews pulled up to a working fire at about 1:51 a.m. in the 200 block of Loma Park Drive near Culebra Road, where initial callers had told dispatchers that children could be trapped inside, prompting a multi-unit response, according to KENS 5. Firefighters knocked back the flames, searched the home room by room and checked the nearby vehicles. Authorities said two cars were involved and confirmed that the structure sustained serious damage.
Holiday shift kept crews busy
The fire broke out during a busy holiday shift for SAFD, which also handled a separate house fire on the Northwest Side that officials linked to fireworks, KSAT reported. For residents looking to prevent similar scares and to know what comes next after a fire, the San Antonio Fire Department recommends checking smoke alarms regularly and never leaving open flames unattended.
Investigation ongoing
Fire officials said they are still working to determine where the flames started and have not yet confirmed whether the fire began in one of the vehicles or inside the house. The cause remains under investigation, according to KENS 5. San Antonio Police Department officers also responded, helping secure the area while firefighters checked for hotspots and made sure the scene was safe.
