Officer Luis Carrillo of the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) has been handed an indefinite suspension after fleeing the scene of a crash while under the influence. The incident, which transpired on June 11, 2025, involved Carrillo hitting a median and a pole before vacating his vehicle and subsequently leaving behind his SAPD jacket with name and badge number, as reported by FOX San Antonio. Multiple 911 callers indicated that the officer "does seem drunk" and described him as appearing to be unable to speak clearly and stumbling while talking.

According to records obtained by KSAT Investigates, the city confirmed that Police Chief William McManus officially suspended Carrillo on October 23, 2025. Carrillo had been a part of the SAPD since 2023. Documents show that approximately an hour after the crash, he asked an off-duty officer to pick him up from Hardberger Park. During this encounter, Carrillo admitted to having caused the crash post consumption of alcohol and deciding to leave the scene because he "panicked".

The suspension report clearly states that Officer Carrillo's actions were contrary to departmental policies. This includes his intoxicated state in public view and his failure to immediately report the property damage resulting from the accident. Such behavior was deemed detrimental to effective law enforcement and failed to align with the expectations of the community.

Despite the administrative actions taken by the SAPD, KSAT Investigates noted that as of their report, Bexar County court records indicated no criminal charges had been filed against Carrillo in relation to the incident. The SAPD stated they completed an investigation and forwarded their findings to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office. On Friday night, KSAT reached out to the DA's office but has yet to update the public on their response.
