Harris County detectives say a teenager is behind bars after a string of armed robberies across north Harris County in which the suspect allegedly used an electric scooter to roll up on victims. According to investigators, the robber targeted people on foot, pointed a handgun at their faces, and demanded wallets and other property. Deputies say the arrest followed a targeted surveillance operation launched after several similar incidents were reported in the area.
How detectives tracked the suspect
Detectives with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit say they ran a targeted surveillance detail on Jan. 8 and spotted someone matching the suspect’s description, dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask, entering an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Sugar Pine Circle, as reported by Click2Houston. Surveillance units followed the individual to a nearby convenience store, then northbound on Kuykendahl Road toward FM 1960, where deputies called in marked patrol units. Investigators say the suspect tried to get away on an electric scooter but was taken into custody without incident.
Arrest, evidence, and investigators' request
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says its detectives arrested Jalan Conway and recovered a handgun believed to have been used in one of the robberies, according to a Harris County Sheriff’s Office news release. Investigators say they believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
What he's accused of
Court records and media reports show Conway was booked into the Harris County Jail on two counts of aggravated robbery. Click2Houston reported that investigators also recovered a victim’s wallet during the operation and that court records indicate Conway had been out on bond on separate offenses in December 2025. He remains in custody while the investigation continues.
Local context
The arrest lands amid other recent robbery cases involving juveniles across Harris County. In May 2025, ABC13 reported that five juveniles were arrested and charged with 27 counts after a string of convenience-store robberies in west Harris County. Officials in those cases also pointed to surveillance footage and quick responses to tips as key tools in identifying suspects.
