A part-time program coordinator for the City of Solon has been found to have received improper compensation after being paid by both the city and Cuyahoga County for the same working hours. According to the Ohio Auditor of State Keith Faber, a press release report, Morgan McParland was issued a finding for recovery of $2,465.68 following an audit of the city's 2024 finances.
Upon the examination of records from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2024, it was discovered that McParland, who served as a part-time coordinator for Solon's Blue Ribbon Adapted Recreation Program, had also been simultaneously employed full-time with the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities. The anomalies were first picked up by the city's human resources department, which noticed some unusual patterns in her submitted timesheets.
An investigation confirmed that McParland was indeed compensated for a total of 76.55 hours by both entities, leading to the identified overpayment. The full audit report, bringing this to light, is publicly available for review online.
As of the time of writing, it has not been disclosed whether McParland will face further disciplinary action or what measures are being put in place to prevent a similar occurrence in the future. However, the case highlights the importance of thorough record-keeping and cross-referencing in public sector employment to ensure the integrity of wage disbursement. The report outlining McParland's case can be accessed and scrutinized directly via the Ohio Auditor's official website.
