Seattle homicide detectives are digging back into a South Seattle shooting after the 40-year-old victim, first wounded in October, died on Thursday. The death, more than three months after the initial attack, has been classified as a delayed-death homicide, and the case is now drawing fresh attention from the Seattle Police Department's homicide unit. Investigators are urging anyone who knows what happened to come forward.
Officers first rushed to the area near South Winthrop Street and Cheasty Boulevard South just after 11 p.m. on Oct. 8, responding to reports of gunfire. They found a man with a gunshot wound to the head. Seattle Fire Department crews provided medical aid at the scene, and the victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. Officers processed the scene, collected ballistic evidence and documented the incident under case number 2025-295239, according to SPD Blotter.
On Thursday, the man died from the injuries he suffered in the shooting, and the King County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed the death. That confirmation prompted detectives to reclassify the case as a delayed-death homicide. “This is an open and active case assigned to homicide detectives,” the Seattle police blotter noted, as reported by SPD Blotter. Investigators say they do not yet have any suspect information to release.
Investigators Seeking Witnesses
Police are asking anyone with information about the October shooting to call the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000. Callers can remain anonymous if they choose. The man was treated at Harborview Medical Center, the region's Level I trauma center, according to UW Medicine.
What Detectives Are Looking For
Detectives say they processed the scene and recovered ballistic evidence on the night of the shooting, and they are now working leads and reviewing witness statements in an effort to identify a suspect. The department has released only limited information so far, and investigators are asking anyone who has additional details or footage from that night to contact the tip line.
