A pedestrian is fighting for their life after a black sedan plowed into them at the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Pecos Road in southeast Las Vegas on Tuesday evening, then took off without stopping, according to police. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, and Metro’s Collision Investigation Section has launched an active probe into the crash.
What officials say
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers told FOX5 the collision happened as the pedestrian was crossing Tropicana when a black sedan struck them. The station reported the victim’s injuries were life threatening and that investigators were working the scene Tuesday night. Police have not released any details identifying the victim or the suspect vehicle.
Traffic impacts
The crash quickly rippled into the evening commute. All southbound lanes at Tropicana and Pecos were briefly shut down, and the Regional Transportation Commission pushed out an alert at about 5:22 p.m., according to KTNV. Drivers were told to steer clear of the area and use alternate routes while emergency crews and investigators worked the scene.
Why this intersection matters
The South Pecos and East Tropicana corridor has a grim track record. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police investigated a separate multi-pedestrian hit-and-run in the same area in August 2025 that left one person dead, highlighting ongoing safety concerns along that stretch of road. Metro’s Collision Investigation Section is urging anyone with information about the latest crash to call its tip line at (702) 828-3595 or reach out to Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555, per the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Investigators say the case remains open and are pressing witnesses to come forward.
