Houston police are searching for a driver who ran away from an early-morning wreck on the city’s south side that left a woman dead and turned a major intersection into a crash scene lit by patrol car headlights. According to Click2Houston, the collision happened around 3:45 a.m. at Almeda Genoa Road and Cullen Boulevard when a pickup truck and a car collided. The pickup dragged the car, causing it to roll several times before it came to rest underneath the truck. The woman driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene, and police said the pickup driver took off on foot.
The Houston Police Department's Vehicular Crimes Division is handling the case. Units like this typically investigate fatal and hit-and-run crashes by canvassing nearby businesses, pulling surveillance footage, and coordinating with patrol officers and the district attorney’s office while also asking for tips from the public.
Where It Happened
The crash unfolded at the busy intersection of Almeda Genoa Road and Cullen Boulevard, a stretch that has seen multiple serious wrecks in recent months. As reported by Click2Houston, officers had already been working a separate early-morning death nearby and were canvassing that area for surveillance video. In December, a high-speed fatal crash on Almeda Genoa led to an arrest and criminal charges, underscoring how often late-night traffic turns dangerous along this corridor.
Legal Consequences
Leaving the scene of a crash that causes a death is a felony in Texas. Transportation Code Section 550.021 makes it a second-degree felony to fail to stop and render aid when a collision results in death. The statute is laid out in detail on Justia. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the HPD Vehicular Crimes Unit at 713-247-4072 or contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477, according to the Houston Police Department phone directory.
