St. Augustine gears up for a greener start to the year with the return of its community recycling event, slated for tomorrow. In an effort to handle waste responsibly and sustainably, the City of St. Augustine, along with St. Johns County Utilities, invites residents to Francis Field at 25 W. Castillo Drive, which will serve as the main drop-off location from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM for a range of recyclable items.
According to a social media post from City of St. Augustine - Government, the event organizers will be accepting used cooking oil, outdated or non-functional electronics like cell phones and tablets, digital cameras, stereos, small electronics, and batteries, they will also be welcoming holiday light strands but it is important to note televisions, hazardous waste, motor oil, and papers for shredding won't be accepted come tomorrow.
Additionally, an alternate drop-off point solely for used cooking oil has been set up at 840 West 16th Street behind the SJC Parks & Recreation Office on Anastasia Island. Residents trying to dispose of holiday trees can leave unadorned trees curbside starting the same day, assuring they will be picked up with regular yard waste.
It's imperative that participants remember not to place light strands in household recycling bins which could disrupt the recycling process; for any further questions, the city advises to contact Solid Waste at 904.825.1049 or send an email to [email protected], also a full list of accepted materials and an event flyer are made available on the city’s website, to provide residents with comprehensive guidelines on what can be recycled this year.
