St. Johns County is offering residents a greener way to dispose of their Christmas trees this holiday season. In an effort to reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills, the county has introduced a free Treecycling program, inviting locals to bring their real, undecorated Christmas trees to designated drop-off locations, as announced on the St. Johns County social media post.
The program, which runs from December 26 through January 6, seeks to repurpose the trees as mulch for use in county parks. However, only clean and real trees that are free of any decorations will be accepted at the drop-off points. Among the locations available for tree drop-offs are Ron Parker Park, Mills Field, Davis Park, Tillman Ridge Transfer Station, and Stratton Road Transfer Station, although note that the latter two stations close at 1 p.m. on Saturdays and are not open on Sunday.
Those interested in participating in the Treecycling initiative can find additional details and the full location list in St. Johns County's original post. This eco-friendly approach not only aids in waste management but contributes to the maintenance and aesthetics of public green spaces within the county.
To ensure that your tree is recycled properly, remove all tinsel, lights, ornaments, and any other non-organic decorative items before drop-off. For more information about the Treecycling program, would-be participants are encouraged to contact the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Main Office at 904-209-0333.
