A suspect has been arrested in connection with a series of property crimes in Simi Valley, unfolding incidents of vehicle theft and burglary that transpired over the course of January 3rd. According to a report by the Simi Valley Police Department, released via the community information service Nixle, a prowling and burglary were initially reported in the early hours around 2:45 AM on Fitzgerald Rd and, by early afternoon, a separate vehicle theft was reported on Treadwell Ave.
Authorities identified the suspect as 33-year-old Simi Valley resident Jeremy McKnight following investigative efforts; later in the afternoon, McKnight was involved in a family disturbance at his home on Treadwell Ave, which subsequently led to his apprehension by the police. Upon officers' arrival around 3:20 PM, McKnight had secluded himself in a bedroom, refusing egress despite "numerous attempts" by law enforcement to make contact.
In an effort to secure compliance, officers employed a "Pepperball Launcher" to deploy oleoresin capsicum (OC) through an open bedroom window; despite these measures, McKnight persisted in his refusal to surrender. The SVPD then enlisted the aid of a police canine unit, entering the bedroom to find McKnight under the bed, leading to his eventual capture and the minor injuries incurred during the incident.
After being treated at Simi Valley Hospital for the resulting wounds, McKnight was transported to Ventura County Main Jail, where he faces multiple charges, including vehicle theft, burglary, prowling, and obstructing an officer in the performance of their duties.
