In Flushing, Queens, ABC7 New York detailed an armed robbery in which a 14-year-old boy was surrounded by three men, stabbed in the shoulder, and robbed of his cell phone on Roosevelt Avenue; this event occurred last Friday morning, and authorities are still searching for the suspects with images released to the public to aid in their capture.
Compounding community concerns, a separate incident unfolded at Launch Charter Academy in Crown Heights, where, according to Brooklyn News12 another 14-year-old boy threatened a peer with an imitation firearm before noon on Thursday; school staff discovered the imitation gun and a knife in his possession following the threat, the school was placed under soft lockdown but classroom instruction continued and the boy was arrested and received a juvenile report for menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.
The NYPD is calling upon anyone with information to come forward, and the victims in both instances are thankfully not facing life-threatening injuries. In the Flushing robbery, the 14-year-old victim was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition, as the perpetrators are still at large, having fled westbound on Roosevelt Avenue.
The statement from Launch Charter Academy emphasized their commitment to safety and the adherence to set protocols in such situations, stating, "We are aware of an incident that occurred on campus involving a student report of a possible weapon. Upon receiving the report, school leadership immediately contacted the NYPD and initiated an investigation. The items involved were recovered and confiscated. A soft lockdown was initiated as a precaution," and confirmed the wellbeing of students and staff throughout the investigation, as reported by Brooklyn News12.
