A man wanted in connection with the Nov. 2 shooting at the Z Town Gastro Pub in Elk Grove is now behind bars in Texas, authorities say, marking a major step in a case that left two men dead and several others wounded. Investigators had warned that the suspect was armed and dangerous. Officials now say federal and local courts will sort out where he is prosecuted first.
Suspect Held In Texas On Federal Count
According to ABC10, Elk Grove police have identified the suspect as 43-year-old Roderick Randall. He is currently being held in Texas on federal charges that accuse him of providing false information to federal law enforcement officers. ABC10 reports that once the federal case wraps up, Randall is expected to be extradited to Sacramento County and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on an active arrest warrant. The warrant lists two counts of homicide, assault with a deadly weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm, per ABC10.
What Happened At Z Town Gastro Pub
The Elk Grove Police Department says officers were called to the Z Town Gastro Pub in the 8400 block of Elk Grove Florin Road around 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 2, where they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds and later learned that a fourth victim had gone to a hospital on their own. One of the victims, an 18-year-old man, died at the scene. A 34-year-old man later died at a hospital, while two other victims were treated and released, according to reporting by CBS Sacramento.
Investigation, Arrests And Tips
As the search for the shooter ramped up, detectives arrested 25-year-old Thao Tran, identified by investigators as the suspect’s girlfriend, on suspicion of being an accessory. She was booked without bail, KCRA reported. Authorities are still asking anyone with information to contact the Elk Grove Police Department at (916) 714-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP.
How The Case Moves Forward
Per ABC10, federal authorities in Texas are handling Randall’s current custody on the false-information charge. Once those proceedings are finished, he is expected to be returned to Sacramento County so local prosecutors can pursue the homicide, assault and firearms counts. Investigators say they will keep collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses as the case moves toward potential formal filings in Sacramento County.
