Tragedy struck yesteday morning when a wrong-way crash on westbound Interstate 80 in Solano County resulted in three fatalities, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. According to ABC10, the collision occurred around 2 a.m. east of the Cordelia Weigh Station involving a white Dodge Charger, with two male occupants, and a black Land Rover Discovery SUV, driven by one woman. All occupants in these vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene.
The CHP has not confirmed which of the vehicles was traveling in the wrong direction, but witnesses reported seeing a "light-colored sedan" driving counter to traffic. The involvement of alcohol or drugs in the incident has not been clarified, with no reports suggesting that fog played any role in the devastating collision. The highway was shut down for over four hours for investigation and clean-up, with westbound lanes being redirected at Suisun Valley Road, before reopening just before 7 a.m.
In an unfortunate turn of events, the response to the first crash led to a secondary collision between a black Tesla Model Y and a red Toyota Tacoma. The driver of the Tacoma was taken to the hospital with suspected minor injuries, and the Tesla driver did not report any injuries. While the first crash's details are still under scrutiny, impairment has been reportedly ruled out in the second mishap, as KCRA stated from the CHP's findings.
The California Highway Patrol's investigation is ongoing as they work to piece together the sequence of the events that led to the loss of three lives.
