Two 16-year-old teenagers were hospitalized following an accidental shooting in northwest Harris County, per an announcement by the Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office. The event unfolded in the neighborhood surrounding the 4500 block of El Salvador Drive, near FM 1960 and Stuebner Airline Road.
The constable's office reported that preliminary investigations suggest that the injuries were "self-inflicted gunshot wounds" from the accidental discharge of a firearm. However, the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain undeveloped; it's currently unclear how the teenagers came into possession of the gun, as detailed by FOX 26 Houston.
Upon their arrival, deputies provided immediate medical assistance, applying tourniquets to stem the bleeding until emergency medical technicians (EMTs) arrived at the scene. This prompt action possibly prevented further harm as the teens waited for transport to the hospital, as reported by Click2Houston.
The current condition of the teenagers has not been disclosed, leaving a cloud of concern over the severity of their injuries. In the meantime, investigations by the constable’s office move forward as they probe into the incident's specifics. And the question of gun access among young individuals once again rears into the public discourse.
