Attention, Colorado Springs residents and park enthusiasts: Starting next Wednesday, Jan. 21, the Rampart Park Drainage project will commence, signaling a short-term inconvenience but a stride towards long-term improvements. According to the City of Colorado Springs, the project is expected to disrupt regular park activities, particularly around the dog park, disc golf course, basketball courts, BMX track, baseball field, and playground, all accessible from Lexington Drive.
The drainage undertaking is forecasted to span three weeks, although this could fluctuate with the unpredictable Colorado weather. The crews have made a projection, the access road closure to last no more than three days, weather permitting, as they work on repairs to protect against the kind of destruction seen in the heavy summer rains of 2025 that brought down a retaining wall. Park-goers should keep an eye on the Colorado Springs Parks' social media for the latest on road closures and accessibility updates.
This necessary construction will see the installation of a new pipe designed to convey water away from vulnerable areas, a preventative measure rooted in prudence. Access to the park will not be fully cut off, but it will be limited to one 10-foot lane that will serve for both entering and exiting traffic. The city advises those departing the park to yield to incoming vehicles as a concession to safety, given the proximity of heavy machinery and the essential bottleneck of road use during the operations.
