Upper Arlington is joining in on the nationwide America 250-Ohio celebrations to mark the United States' Semiquincentennial, taking a moment to look back on the 250 years that have defined the country since 1776, according to an announcement posted on the city's official website. The community's participation comes after the City Council passed a resolution in early 2025 to engage in the historic event, readying a series of projects and events across Upper Arlington.
America 250-Ohio flags have now become a local staple, first hoisted on January 12 at the Tremont Library with more flags set to fly at various locations, including fire stations and key spots like the Mallway and on Reed Road, signaling a year-long acknowledgment of historical narratives and community pride, yet the celebrations do not stop with mere flag-raising, an interactive online map titled "The History of UA: 250 Stops on Our Story" according to Upper Arlington's website, has taken its first breath featuring 250 historical facts, to ultimately cover the expanse of Upper Arlington's past, starting with its first 10 entries.
As noted on Upper Arlington's website, the local Historical Society is inviting public participation in this historical cartography, where residents can contribute their own pieces of local lore at uahistory.org. One of the tentpole events in this commemorative journey is a dedication ceremony for the Walcutt-Legg Cemetery, a historic resting place for figures like Revolutionary War soldier Elijah Legg, scheduled for April 19 with community involvement, including contributions from Wellington School students.
