As February approaches, bringing with it the annual reminder to focus on cardiovascular health, Wake County is stepping up to offer residents potentially life-saving skills at no cost. The county's government took to social media to announce that the month of heart health awareness will also serve as an opportunity for individuals to learn hands-only CPR. According to a Facebook post by Wake County Government, these skills have already had a remarkable impact in the region. Notably, "In 2024 in #WakeCounty, bystander CPR increased patients' chances of surviving cardiac arrest from 15% to 42%."
With such striking statistics emphasizing the importance of CPR proficiency, Wake County EMS and Wake County Public Health are coming together to host not one, not two, but four free hands-only CPR training sessions in the coming month. These sessions foster an environment where members of the public can equip themselves with the know-how to act in critical situations, it stands to reason that with more bystanders trained in these emergency procedures, survival rates from cardiac incidents can only improve in Wake County. It's crucial, though, participants understand that these courses do not provide an official CPR certificate, but the knowledge imparted could indeed make a vital difference.
The invitation to take part in these free courses is an open call to action for all able residents, a reflection of the community's collective responsibility to safeguard the wellbeing of its citizens. For anyone interested in signing up for the courses, the county has shared a direct link to the registration page, easily accessible through their post. The courses are set to offer hands-on experience with CPR techniques that cater specifically to those without a medical background, emphasizing accessible education for all.
