Deputies of Constable Mark Herman's Office found more than they bargained for when responding to a reported shoplifting incident on January 6. At a business located in the 19500 block of the North Freeway, authorities attempted to apprehend Tierra Atkins, the suspect in question, only to be met with fierce resistance. According to the Constable's Facebook page, Atkins is accused of biting two deputies and spitting on three during the altercation.
Already out on a meager $100 bond for a prior Driving While Intoxicated charge, Atkins' encounter with the deputies led to theft and two counts of assault on peace officers charges against her. While trying to detain her, law enforcement was taken aback by the ferocity of her reaction, a struggle that resulted in bodily harm and a biohazard challenge for those involved.
In the aftermath of the confrontation, "Tierra Atkins was arrested and charged with Theft and two counts of Assault on Peace Officer. Her bond and court information have not been set at this time," Constable Mark Herman's social media post. The procedures for setting her bond and court information remain pending. The deputies involved are undoubtedly processing the physical and psychological ramifications of Atkins’ desperate act of defiance.
Community members are called to stay informed about the safety precautions and crime updates in their area.
