A New Year’s Eve drive in northwest Harris County ended in deadly violence when a man believed to be in his 20s was found shot inside a car on West Road near Telge Road, according to deputies.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called around 3:30 p.m. for reports of a “man down.” When they arrived, they found the victim unresponsive in the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators have not yet released his name.

What Investigators Say Happened

Detectives told ABC13 they believe the victim drove himself to the location before the confrontation. At some point, a suspect got into the victim’s car, and an altercation broke out. During that struggle, the victim was shot.

Investigators say that the first suspect then got out of the car. A second person reportedly walked up, climbed into the vehicle and took an item from inside, according to details shared with FOX 26 Houston. Both suspects left before deputies arrived.

Who the Deputies Are Trying To Find

Sgt. Sidney Miller told ABC13 that early information suggests the initial suspect was wearing a hoodie. Investigators currently believe the victim and both suspects are male.

Detectives are canvassing nearby homes and businesses for surveillance video, hoping cameras along West Road or at nearby intersections captured the suspects, the vehicle or anything that happened before or after the shooting. They are also urging anyone who was driving in the area around 3:30 p.m. to come forward if they saw something unusual.

Tips, Crime Stoppers, And New Year’s Eve Context

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division is asking anyone with tips, photos, or video to call 713-274-9100, or to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 713-222-TIPS (8477), as reported by FOX 26 Houston. No arrests have been announced, and the case remains an active homicide investigation.

New Year’s Eve has historically brought a spike in gunfire-related calls across the Houston area, which means even small details can matter on a night when shots are more easily dismissed as “celebratory,” according to the Houston Chronicle. Investigators say that makes any video, photos, or witness accounts from the West Road area especially valuable as they work to piece together what happened in the final hours of 2024.
