Police were called around 3:57 p.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of North Hilton Street, where they say the boy ran into the roadway in the middle of an argument, as reported by WBAL-TV. The outlet reports that the driver remained at the scene and the child was taken to a nearby hospital; his condition was not immediately released. Baltimore police told WBAL-TV the investigation is ongoing.
Statewide Trends And Safety Efforts
Preliminary state data show traffic deaths fell in 2025, with pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities down about a third, according to Maryland’s crash dashboard and reporting by CBS Baltimore. Officials have pointed to targeted enforcement, engineering fixes, and grant-funded pedestrian safety work as contributing factors, and local outreach campaigns and enforcement waves are aimed at reducing collisions on busy corridors.
Hilton Street's Recent History
The Hilton Street corridor has seen other serious pedestrian incidents in recent years. WBAL-TV reported a fatal hit-and-run on the 100 block of South Hilton Street in March 2025. Neighbors and safety advocates have long pushed for traffic calming and engineering changes on parts of the corridor to help prevent future crashes.
Baltimore police say the investigation into Tuesday’s incident remains active and are asking anyone with information to contact the department or submit tips through Metro Crime Stoppers, per the Baltimore Police Department newsroom. We will update this post as officials release more details.
