A vintage guitar with a hefty price tag has been swiped from Music Land, according to the Bel Air Police Department. The 1947 Martin D-28 acoustic guitar, which hosts a value of around $15,000, went missing from the store located at 200 Gateway Drive. As reported by FOX Baltimore, the theft was carried out by a group of four—composed of one male and three females—who entered the shop shortly after 8 p.m. on February 3.
From what officials have pieced together, the quartet appeared to casually browse the premises, eventually finding themselves in the guitar room known for its climate control—no doubt to preserve such precious strings. It is here that the male accomplice was caught on tape climbing onto a stool to meticulously remove the prized instrument from its display. He then proceeded to hand it off to one of his affiliates, who managed to quickly conceal the guitar in a large bag, shrouded further under a long black coat, as per surveillance footage described by WBAL. This all unfolded without confrontations or injuries, as the group left the store undetected.
The guitar in question bears unique tell-tale signs of its identity, marked by distinctive cracks from a past refinishing on its back, alongside a serial number, 101862. This serial number could serve as a crucial lead in confirming the instrument's ownership upon recovery. The Bel Air Police Department has extended a call to action for anyone who might recognize the suspects or have any information on the theft. Tips can be directed to Officer K. Martin at 410-638-4500 or by email at [email protected], as echoed by FOX Baltimore.
While the quest to find the stolen guitar continues, the police are also investigating to determine whether this incident may be part of a larger string of related thefts in the area. Music Land's owner, Sergio Dalto, can also be reached for comments at 443-613-8763.
