Early this morning in East Baltimore, a deadly shooting turned the 1500 block of Ashland Avenue into an active homicide scene as a gunshot victim remained at the location while police moved in. Officers shut down the block, and homicide detectives worked with crime-scene technicians into the morning, combing the area for evidence. Authorities have not yet released the victim's name or any description of a possible suspect.
Photographs published by Fox Baltimore show a crime lab technician inspecting a cartridge casing on the pavement and others recovering a drone after using it to document the scene from above. Maryland Transit Administration police joined Baltimore City officers at the location while the area was processed and secured. Investigators deployed a forensics drone to capture imagery of the crime scene, and Fox45 said it is working to gather more details about what led up to the shooting.
Baltimore's broader homicide trend
The killing comes during a period when Baltimore has reported fewer homicides than in recent years, a shift local outlets have been tracking even as city neighborhoods continue to wrestle with gun violence. According to WMAR2 News' February tracker and reporting by CBS Baltimore, 2025 ended with substantially fewer homicides than prior years, and early 2026 totals have so far stayed below last year's pace. Police are still urging community members to come forward, asking anyone with information to contact the Baltimore Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 410-396-2100.
Police request tips as investigation continues
By later Saturday morning, there were no immediate reports of arrests or charges, and detectives remained focused on processing the Ashland Avenue scene. Media crews documented the activity on the block as evidence teams continued their work, and Fox Baltimore said it would update its coverage as new information emerges. Local outlets are monitoring the case as the investigation moves forward and police search for leads.
