A man was fatally shot on Friday morning during what appears to be a robbery inside a Baltimore store, a tragic event challenging the city’s weary heart. WBAL reported that the incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of Broadway, bringing the day's bustling start to a somber standstill. The 36-year-old victim was transported to a hospital shortly thereafter, where the cease of his life was pronounced.
The owner of Broadway Market shared harrowing surveillance footage with FOX Baltimore, which detailed how a masked suspect, garbed in black and a ski mask, brandished a weapon, fired a shot, and then proceeded to rob the store. According to the store's owner, the video's voice heard demanding, "Give me the money," was that of the suspect just before the victim, Khaled, cousin to the owner, was struck by a bullet.
Poignant details emerged from the owner, who described Khaled as a man who treated customers like kin. "He didn’t argue with nobody, when they fell, when they open the store, everybody, hi, bye, like family," the owner told FOX Baltimore. Khaled, a father of three young children, has been thrust into the relentless tide of Baltimore's criminal narrative, leaving a community to grapple with the void left in violence's wake.
Baltimore police, dealing with the case as both a homicide and armed robbery, have yet to confirm if the suspect is connected to other area crimes. The store owner recounted to FOX Baltimore, "The police, when he come yesterday, he say same guy, he robbed this other store he come in here." In a city all too familiar with the anguish of loss, the perpetrator remains a shadow amongst the populace, his capture a burgeoning need.
Baltimore police encourage anyone with information to come forward and contact Metro Crime Stoppers at 866-756-2587, with the hope that the puzzle of justice might find its missing piece.
