On a cold Friday night in North Baltimore, a deadly burst of gunfire on Sheridan Avenue left one man dead, another wounded, and homicide detectives publicly pleading for help to catch whoever pulled the trigger.
Police say 40-year-old Michael Ramseur was found fatally shot in the 500 block of Sheridan Avenue and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was also hit by gunfire and taken to a hospital for treatment.
The Baltimore Police Department took the appeal public on X, asking residents to come forward with anything they know and writing that “Homicide detectives need your help at solving the murder of Mr. Michael Ramesur.” According to Baltimore Police, anyone with information can contact detectives directly or submit an anonymous tip through Metro Crime Stoppers.

What the police say about the shooting
Authorities report that the gunfire broke out shortly after 9:00 p.m. in the area of Sheridan and Woodbourne Avenues. Officers responding to the scene found one man already deceased and another suffering from gunshot wounds. As noted by WMAR-2 News, homicide detectives were called in and quickly took over the investigation.
How tips and rewards are being handled
Metro Crime Stoppers is putting cash on the table for information that leads to an arrest, with rewards in Baltimore homicide cases often listed at up to $8,000. According to Metro Crime Stoppers and prior city funding announcements, tips can be submitted by phone, through the P3 Tips mobile app, or via the nonprofit’s website, all while keeping the tipster’s identity anonymous.
Local context
The Sheridan Avenue killing adds to a grim stretch of violence in the city this month, as local outlets and researchers track January’s shootings and the names of those lost. WYPR and other local trackers have noted that closing homicide cases often depends heavily on community tips, and officials in recent years have leaned on reward funding in hopes of boosting that flow of information.
How to reach investigators
Homicide detectives are asking anyone who knows anything about the Sheridan Avenue shooting to call the department’s homicide line at 410-396-2100.
Residents who want to stay anonymous can contact Metro Crime Stoppers at the toll-free line 1-866-7LOCKUP (1-866-756-2587) or submit a tip online through the Metro Crime Stoppers site.
Police also note that their X account is not monitored around the clock, and that people should call 911 to report any crime in progress.
