In a move aimed to enhance transportation options for Baltimore's waterfront visitors and workers, the city plans to extend the Harbor Connector Route 2 to include a new stop at Maritime Park in Fells Point starting March 2. This addition, as reported by Fox Baltimore, is part of a reconfiguration meant to boost harbor-side connectivity and maintain the city's commitment to offering fare-free, eco-friendly transit.
The revised service will operate on a peak schedule from 7:15 a.m. to 11:25 a.m. and then again from 3:50 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Friday. Morning voyages will connect Canton Waterfront Park, Locust Point, and then Maritime Park before circling back to Canton every 45 minutes, according to a press release from the Baltimore City Department of Transportation. This is expected to considerably improve transport frequencies and to also allow travelers to seamlessly transition between stops without the need to change boats.
Further service enhancements include an expansion of Harbor Connector Route 3's weekday service hours. From March 2, boats on this route will be available from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., departing every 15 minutes. This adjustment promises to add another layer of convenience to the water transit service, as per WMAR2 News.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott praised the initiative, saying "The Harbor Connector is a vital link in Baltimore City’s transportation network," and emphasized that investing in the maritime infrastructure "by investing in our maritime infrastructure, we’re helping to drive economic growth, support environmental sustainability, and strengthen the longterm resilience of our waterfront communities," in a statement obtained by Fox Baltimore. The expressed goal is to boost both ecological and economic factors while enhancing the overall waterfront experience for residents and visitors alike.
