A Las Vegas man accused of grabbing a customer's gun and killing him inside an AutoZone last year has agreed to plead guilty to murder with the use of a deadly weapon, according to new court filings. Sentencing is set for April 9, 2026, and prosecutors say the deal could leave him locked up for decades.
The shooting unfolded on May 23, 2025, at the AutoZone in the 1200 block of East Charleston Boulevard near Maryland Parkway, where officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to a release from the LVMPD. Metro police arrested 36-year-old Kyle Robert Capucci about a block from the store and booked him on an open-murder charge, the department said. The Clark County coroner later identified the victim as 21-year-old David Carcamo.
Investigators obtained surveillance video that showed Capucci walking into the store barefoot and without pants, then getting into a struggle with Carcamo over a handgun, although the cameras did not capture the moments when shots were fired, the Las Vegas Review‑Journal reported. Witnesses told police Carcamo had been openly carrying the firearm on his hip and approached Capucci after noticing his erratic behavior. Friends and relatives later set up a small memorial and a GoFundMe page that described Carcamo as a devoted father.
Guilty Plea And Sentence Range
Court documents filed this month show Capucci has agreed to plead guilty to murder with the use of a deadly weapon, with paperwork outlining a potential sentence of 21 years to life in prison, with parole eligibility beginning in 2046, according to 8 News Now. The outlet reported that a blood test taken after his arrest showed methamphetamine in his system.
The same filings note Capucci's 2022 guilty plea to an attempted robbery charge and reference an earlier drug-court agreement that prosecutors say he violated. According to the paperwork, he was released from custody on April 28, 2025, less than a month before the shooting.
Family Reaction And Investigation Details
Carcamo's family described him as "pure‑hearted" and said he worked multiple jobs to support his young daughter, relatives told FOX5 Las Vegas. A small memorial remains outside the AutoZone, and the family has organized a fundraiser to help cover expenses for the child, the station reported.
Metro's homicide unit has said it is continuing to investigate the killing and urged anyone with information to reach out to detectives or Crime Stoppers.
What Comes Next
Capucci is scheduled to be sentenced on April 9, 2026. If the plea deal is accepted and the higher end of the potential sentence range is imposed, he could spend decades in prison and would not be eligible for parole until 2046, according to reporting by 8 News Now. The killing happened during a struggle after officers said the victim was openly carrying a firearm while shopping, a detail highlighted in Metro's statement.
