Heads up, Bay Area commuters. If you're planning to travel through Davie County on Interstate 40, prepare for some lane closures that are bound to impact your drive. According to NCDOT, to safely install formwork, contractor crews working for the N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close the left lanes of I-40, going both eastbound and westbound, near Pinebrook School Road.
The scheduled disruption is set for Feb. 13, with closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Keep in mind, the westbound left lane will be closed between mile markers 177-175, and on the eastbound side, from mile markers 174 -176. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and to expect their travel times to be seriously slowed down their travel times while cruising through the construction zone.
Commuter safety is a priority during these disruptions. "Drivers should expect potential delays and are encouraged to slow down and use caution in the area," the NCDOT stated. With reduced lanes and potential bottlenecks, vigilance and patience are key—especially during peak hours when traffic is typically more congested.
The inconvenience, though temporary, is a necessary step in maintaining and improving the infrastructure we rely upon so heavily. So when you hit the road come Feb. 13, factor in some extra time, stay alert, and remember to safely navigate through the construction area. The lane closures are a short-term pain for what will hopefully result in long-term gains in the form of safer, smoother travel on I-40 in the future. Just make sure to properly brace yourself for a slower than usual commute.
