Back 9 Bar, a longtime Highway 71 watering hole west of Bastrop, has officially poured its last round after the owners announced they were retiring. Patrons packed the spot for a final night of karaoke, line dancing, and yard games in late January as staff and regulars said their goodbyes. The shutdown marks the end of roughly a decade of live music, an on-site driving range, and food-truck nights at the property.
In a social media post on Jan. 15, the owners wrote, "We will be retiring from the bar business," and thanked guests for more than 10 years of support, according to Community Impact. The outlet reports the bar closed on Jan. 20 and lists the location as 834 Hwy. 71 W. in Bastrop. The Facebook page and comment threads were quickly filled with patrons sharing memories and photos from the bar's run.
What Made Back 9 A Local Hangout
The venue pulled double duty as both a nightlife spot and an on-site golf driving range, with live bands, food-truck nights, and yard games drawing crowds from across the county. Visit Bastrop lists the bar's recurring events, including live-band karaoke and outdoor seating, among its features.
Final Night And Patrons' Farewells
Online posts captured the fondness residents felt for the bar: "We have gained many great memories from Back 9," one regular wrote, while a former employee said working the door there in 2016 was "the most fun I ever had at any job," according to Community Impact. The owners' farewell added that over the past 10 years, they had made "many friends along the way" and appreciated the community's support.
What’s Next For The Highway 71 Spot
The owners did not include a public plan for the property in their message, and it is unclear whether the site will reopen under new management. Some local event listings and visitor guides still show Back 9's page, suggesting online calendars may not yet reflect the closure, per Visit Bastrop. For now, the bar's Facebook page remains where most patrons have posted their goodbyes.
