A late-night traffic stop in Brooklyn Park ended with a Glen Burnie man in handcuffs after police say they found a loaded handgun on the front seat, suspected drugs and an open bottle of alcohol in his vehicle.
Anne Arundel County officers pulled the car over around 12:45 a.m. last Saturday near the intersection of Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard and Hammonds Lane, according to police. The driver was arrested on DUI, weapons, drug and open-container charges.
Police say DUI stop led to gun and drug charges
According to FOX Baltimore, officers initially stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation and reported signs that the driver was operating under the influence.
Police told the outlet they saw a loaded handgun on the driver’s seat. A search of the vehicle then turned up suspected marijuana, smoking devices and an open bottle of alcohol. The driver, identified in the report as 22-year-old Kendall Brian Scott of Glen Burnie, was arrested and charged.
Busy corridor, familiar problems
Traffic stops along the Ritchie Highway and Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard corridor have repeatedly turned up guns and drugs, which has kept patrols focused on the area. Hoodline previously covered a 2024 case involving a Glen Burnie driver booked for DUI and firearm possession.
County records reflect ongoing enforcement
Anne Arundel County Police Department press releases detail other arrests tied to traffic stops near Ritchie Highway and Hammonds Lane that resulted in suspected drugs and weapons being seized. As outlined by Anne Arundel County Police, a July 2022 stop in the same vicinity led to the seizure of suspected crack cocaine and oxycodone pills and two arrests.
What the charges could mean
Scott faces multiple counts, each carrying its own potential penalties under Maryland law. Driving under the influence can bring fines and possible jail time, while drug and weapons charges add separate criminal exposure.
Under Maryland Code §21-902, a first DUI conviction can carry up to one year behind bars and fines, among other sanctions.
Court filings will spell out the exact list of charges and any bail conditions. Anyone with information related to the case can contact the department’s tip line at 410-222-4700, according to Anne Arundel County Police.
