As spring ushers in, the Town of Cary is gearing up to host a series of environmental initiatives aimed to engage the local community in nature and sustainability. According to an announcement on the Town of Cary's website, residents can look forward to a variety of activities including Creek Week's educational events, a tree giveaway, and a fusion of arts with ecological awareness at the Spring Daze festival.
Beginning March 14 through March 21, Creek Week offers Cary citizens the chance to actively to participate in protecting their waterways. Events like the Spring Litter Sweep and the Sip n’ Stroll mix recreation with hands-on learning opportunities. The Town of Cary's website says, "Participants will hear directly from a Cary stormwater expert, explore how the Park manages runoff, and take home practical tips for protecting neighborhood streams."
Adding to Cary's green initiatives, the My Tree, Our Tree program is making its return. The town is giving away 600 native trees to residents on a first-come, first-served basis. This program not only supports urban forestry but also equips homeowners with knowledge on "proper planting and care." Additionally, the initiative plays into Cary’s broader efforts to bolster local tree canopy and foster environmental resilience.
Aligning with the tree giveaway, the Town of Cary celebrates its continued status as a Tree City USA on March 28. The Arbor Day event promises to be a family-friendly affair with "educational booths on topics such as native plants, water quality, urban agriculture, composting, and more." A highlight, as noted on the town's website, will be the Cary’s Arbor Day Proclamation and the recognition of the Hometown Spirit Award recipient.
Looking ahead to April 25, the Spring Daze festival will again host Earth Day Lane. Thousands are expected to attend and will have the opportunity to explore environmental education and sustainability through various interactive activities. The town's Environmental Outreach program is behind these events, which aim to build "community resiliency through sustainability-focused classes, events, and volunteer opportunities that inspire stewardship of natural resources and sustainable living," as per the Town of Cary's website.
