The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Cleveland Clinic just pulled back the curtain on the inside of their riverfront training complex, dropping new interior renderings that show off recovery suites, dining areas and multiple practice courts. The images present the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center as part high-performance lab, part everyday hangout, built to speed up rehab and keep players rooted near downtown. With the structure already climbing along the Cuyahoga, the project is quickly turning into one of the most visible pieces of the city’s riverfront overhaul.
The Cavs and their partners released the latest interior images Monday, highlighting an integrated recovery corridor, hydrotherapy pools, nutrition-focused dining spaces and even an on-site barbershop. Planners say the 210,000-square-foot Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center could be the largest indoor practice facility in professional sports in the United States, and the team still expects to move in by February 2027, according to WKYC.
Inside the center
Design work by Populous, with interiors by Pophouse, stacks performance and daily life under one roof. The plans call for multiple basketball courts, a dedicated “shot lab” simulator, spacious locker rooms and communal dining areas built around structured nutritional programming. The renderings lean heavily into recovery, with spa-style hydro pools, a connected treatment corridor and private therapy suites that the organization says are intended to shorten rehab timelines and boost day-to-day readiness, as reported by Sports Business Journal.
Design, partners and timeline
The Populous-designed complex sits on the Cuyahoga Riverfront as the first vertical anchor of Bedrock Real Estate’s $3.5 billion Riverfront master plan, putting the Cavs just a few blocks from Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Construction has moved from groundbreaking to structure-complete, capped by a topping-off ceremony in July 2025. The Cleveland Clinic says the facility will blend elite sports medicine with public access once it is fully running. The Clinic and the team also note that the project will support Cavs Academy youth programming and will open certain training and testing spaces to the broader community, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Riverfront redevelopment and local deals
Getting the building onto its tight site took some creative maneuvering at City Hall. Cleveland sold an air-rights parcel above Eagle Avenue so Bedrock could put up a structure that effectively straddles the street, a move that locked in the unusual layout along the riverfront. Developers say the center is set to anchor new parks, riverwalks and retail planned for the Riverfront district, tying an elite sports campus into a broader push to activate downtown, Sports Business Journal reported.
Community access and next steps
Team and Clinic leaders stress that parts of the facility will be open to more than just the Cavs roster. Certain performance and treatment zones are slated for use by local athletes and members of the public. The Cavaliers are expected to move into the building earlier in 2027, with public access to designated performance and treatment areas to follow later that year, according to Cleveland Magazine.
