A trip to the gym turned into a scare yesterday when a man allegedly pulled a handgun and tried to fire it inside a crowded Altamonte Springs fitness club. The incident unfolded at the Crunch Fitness in the Jamestown Place shopping center at 951 N. State Road 434, sending members running when the weapon was revealed. Staff and witnesses later helped police identify and track down the suspect, and no injuries were reported.
According to WFTV, officers were called after witnesses said a man lifted his shirt, pulled a handgun from his waistband, and pointed it at people inside the gym. Investigators used membership records and surveillance video provided by staff to identify the suspect as Winston Medley. The outlet reports that police later took a man into custody.
Witness Accounts, Images And The Vehicle Lead
One witness told investigators he saw the firearm "move as if the trigger had been pulled" but did not hear a shot, describing the moment as a dry fire. Images of the suspect were shared with law enforcement, and the Seminole County Sheriff's Office helped track a red Ford Mustang registered to Medley near a McDonald's on Tuskawilla Road in Winter Springs. Those leads ended in the arrest, according to WFTV.
