What began as a neighborhood street party on Jacksonville’s Eastside early Sunday turned into a scene of chaos when gunfire erupted, wounding four people and sending crowds scrambling off the block. Officers flooded the area as emergency crews treated the injured, and what was supposed to be a night out quickly turned into a crime scene. Investigators say the work is far from over as they canvass the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance video.
According to First Coast News, the shooting happened in the middle of the street gathering and left four people hurt. Initial coverage showed a heavy law enforcement presence and officers going door to door for information, but early reports included few details on the conditions of those wounded.
Part of a Wider Party-Linked Shooting Trend
Jacksonville has seen more than one party turn violent in recent months. News4Jax previously reported on a November after-party shooting that also left four people hospitalized. Taken together, these incidents show how quickly unsanctioned gatherings can spiral and how they can complicate efforts to identify shooters and persuade witnesses to cooperate.
Investigation
Per First Coast News, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office detectives are leading the investigation and are reviewing surveillance footage along with witness statements collected at the scene. No suspect description or arrest had been released in the initial phase of the probe, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Office so detectives can follow up on tips.
